This is a very good "Live Performance" by Faddis, Sanchez, Berroa, Acuna, Doctor and the WDR Band. From the exciting opening tune
'Montuno' to the equally uplifting closer 'Manaos'. But I think many people will tire of John Faddis' screeching high notes. It does get kind of old
and annoying. Even though I love high note specialists in big bands (e.g. Rich, Kenton, Ferguson, etc.) Faddis' continued jaunts into the stratosphere
can really make one want to fast forward a dozen measures so as not to suffer from noise fatique. David Sanchez is undoubtedly the more imaginative,
inventive and articulate of the two soloists.

Just as an aside - I noticed that while Faddis, Sanchez and the rhythm section were
really having a good time, most of the band acted like a bunch of stiff-necked white collar executives. Of course that didn't affect their excellent
ensemble work. Whatever happened to enjoying yourself while playing jazz (ala Don Ellis' Jazz Orchestra). I used to hate playing in bands where
playing jazz seemed like a recital. Too serious, no fun.

Also, I can see where some jazz enthusiasts say that the Fender bass doesn't
lend itself well to alot of tunes. You be the judge here. All in all, a very outstanding jazz DVD.
